HiMMODA

HiMMODA (Hybrid Multifunctional Metamaterials for Defence Applications) is an EDA-funded research project that develops advanced, multifunctional metamaterials and metasurfaces for camouflage technology. Focused on enhancing force protection, it creates next-generation materials combining optical and radar camouflage to improve military stealth capabilities.

Key Aspects of HiMMODA

Objective: Develop innovative camouflage using advanced metamaterials to hide military assets from both visual and radar detection.

Study Focus: Initiated by the European Defence Agency (EDA), the project investigates the potential of these materials to inform future R&T planning and capability development.

Partnership: The project involved multiple partners across EU countries, aiming to foster cross-border collaboration in the defence supply chain.

Phases: Following earlier research, recent phases (2022–2024) have focused on fabricating and testing demonstrators for multi-range, reconfigurable camouflage.
